    Ever had a scary encounter?

This is my embarrassing "ghost" story.

We visited Waxahachie, Tx for the local Renaissance faire, and thought we'd also visit The Catfish Plantation restaurant, a Victorian famed for its ghosts.

One particular ghost is supposed to throw silverware in the dining room, so as we sat at dinner, I kept my fork firmly in hand. As I was saying to my husband that I didn't feel any "presence"...suddenly a cold wind chilled my neck and the air about me became frosty.

As my eyes bugged out of my head, my husband merely rolled his eyeballs and said "the air conditioner vent is right over your head".

    Geez :)

Needless to say, my silverware remained on the table, and nothing happened ;)

I totally believe in ghosts but I haven't ever had an encounter with one. You know what I do love? That show on the Sci Fi Channel, Ghosthunters. Wouldn't it be fun to have a non-Halloween, Halloween night where you dressed up and watched Ghosthunters and danced to Monster Mash...haha.

I love Ghost Hunters too! :D

The best thing about Jay and Grant is that they try to debunk what's happening- not just whip up the tingles. Some of their adventures would have sent me screaming off in to the distance- that's for sure! Did you see the one where the glass broke on the table right next to Jay's bed?! From the inside out. Yeah, ok- I'm outta there!!

If you want to have a costume night, you just invoke a Festival Night. We had a "Festival of It Being Less than 100 Degrees Today" one time. (laugh)

You could also do a Ghost Hunters Premiere night and everyone wears their best ghost/ghoul get up.

On a related but wandering from topic note--(ha ha)... Knotts Berry Farm in LA becomes Scary Farm at this time of year. It's AWESOME.

And a place here in Texas near Terrell called Thrillvania encourages you to wear a costume to their haunted Verdun Manor. That place will make you wish you had some Depends on.. :p

Re: Ever had a scary encounter?

I live in a farm house that was built in 1896. We have had many occurrences happen over the years. It it seasonal it seems less things happen during the winter. We have changed the our backdoor and lock more than once. At about noonish you can hear the door open and close.  One of our creepiest occurrences took place when my sister was home alone she called us on the cell phone crying because she could hear foot falls up stairs that sounded like an old pair of ladies boots on the back staircase. I did not believe her, when we got home i went into my room (my closet is under the back staircase to the upstairs) i could hear the foot falls and realized i had been hearing them for sometime, the other times i had herd the footsteps it had been raining, i figured it was raindrops before, it wasn't raining this time,I knew my sister was telling the truth. My mom also could hear the footsteps and was walking around to the backstaircase also curious i raced around hoping to see the "ghost" my mom and i ran into eachother and screamed. After we screamed the foot falls stopped and we have never herd them in the stairwell since. I am actually kind of dissapointed that my mom and i ended up bumping into eachother and screaming. It has been about 5 years and has not happend again. What ever is in our house is not bad and we have become use to it, if something doesn't happen for a while we sometimes miss it.I guess thats what happens when you live with something for over 13 years. There are other things that happen every so often and when in the basement we can still hear people walking on the main floor when there is no one there.

    13 IS LUCKY!

Re: Ever had a scary encounter?

I have never personally had anything but when I was younger, we had this couple living with us that were my brother's friends.  One night, my sister was on the couch sleeping and the girlfriend came out to get something to drink, and she swears up and down that she saw something standing over my sister staring at her.  That's creepy to think someone in our own home.  Yikes!!

I also used to live with this one girl, and she thought there were spirits in her bathroom that would get her at night.  She had her own demons to fight though, so I didn't give much credit to that story.

Re: Ever had a scary encounter?

My appartment is haunted. My husband never believed me and thought it was just pregnancy hormones until he heard a childs voice call for him late one night. We've had all sorts of things happen. I've had it sit on the bed next to me and follow me into the shower. We had a local ghost hunting team here in las vegas called LVSSI conduct a investigation and it was so scary. They captured orbs and got one photo of the ghost itself. The medium that they brought with them talked to it. It seems to be a teenager and died from some trama to his stomach and is drawn to our family because of our children but not in a sick way. They had a motion detector in my bedroom that went off 23 times which has NEVER happened to them. No one was in the room and a camera was set up to watch it. There batteries drained constantly. We didn't ask it to leave though because the ghost became very upset. He wants to stay in our family so we just set down ground rules, like no more watching me in the shower, and have lived very quietly for a few months now.

Re: Ever had a scary encounter?

I have had a couple of experiences.  I am a member of a paranormal investigative team in Tyler, Tx where I live.  I guess the most "haunted" place I have been to is a bed & breakfast in Jefferson, Tx.  This is a town that boasts on being the most haunted town in Texas.  My team and I were there trying to determine if the place was "haunted" or just stories.  We were going into the wee hours and nothing had happened and we decided to stop and get some sleep.  As we were walking down the stairs, something sounded like it growled at us.  There was no one else in the house except for the team members and we were all together.  When we returned home and reviewed everything, we actually recorded several voices.  I try to stay there as often as I can because who doesn't love a good scare?

Re: Ever had a scary encounter?

I can scare myself silly just taking the trash out or going to the car at night...if I think about anything spooky, by the time I get the trash out there, or whatever I needed from the car.. I am in a dead run back to the house. But I have had a few real live spooky things. The first one I was about 18 and I was in my room, laying on my bed. I had the window open and was looking out the window. It was such a peacefull moment. I was looking at the climbing roses and their scent was drifting through the window, and somewhere someone was playing the flute. We lived in a rural area so I couldn't tell where the music was comming from but it was just floating though the air. I felt the side of my bed go down, like someone had sat down, and I said. hey Soph (my little sister) do you hear that? She didn't snswer and then I felt the bed lift up, like someone got up, I turned my head and said Soph.. but there was no one there. No one in my room at all. I was taken aback a little. Often wondered who that was. The second. We were at a friends grandparents house. I was sitting on the edge of the couch. I watched an old man with white hair...which looked kinda of messy, brown slacks, white button up shirt..but the top few buttons were unbuttoned, he even had a white undershirt on, walk from the bathroom.. directly across the hall into a bedroom. He was transparent, but I saw him. Of couse hair stood up and I was all Holy beep. I told my friend what I saw and he pulled out a photo album, and asked if the man looked like this man. It did.. and he told me that the family had no idea who he was.. he just showed up in pictures sometimes. oooo goosebumps even now.

Oh, wow those stories are crazy! I also love ghost hunters! There is this video on youtube that a man caught a couple ghosts on camera and it was on the news and everything. He even had a guy look at the video to prove it was not a fake! Just seeing the clip of this gave me goosebumps! I work in a CBRF (nursing home) I have seen things out of the corner of my eye and yet I don't know if it was just my mind playing tricks on me or if it was real! Who knows. I sure do get an adrenaline rush though!

Re: Ever had a scary encounter?

I agree! I love Ghosthunters and I love steve! He is hot with all his tattoos, yet has a fear of spiders and flying. So cute! Love him!

I did have an encounter at the Buxton Inn in Grandville Ohio. The story is of a man who wears a hat, sits in this particular corner by the bar that is downstairs. My one friend went there and she took pictures in that corner, she took like 5 and her camera went dead. Then she said that after she left, her camera came back on.

So I went there with my family for breakfast one Sunday morning, I went downstairs to the bar area and started to take pictures.... sure enough- MY CAMERA WENT DEAD! once I got upstairs, it came back on! I loved it! Unfortunatley I didn't capture anything but orbs (or probably dust) in the images.

Re: Ever had a scary encounter?

Great story!   I visited friends who live in a circa 1910 home and several people followed the homeowner on a tour of the house.  I was lagging behind, admiring the antiques, so everyone else went through the attic and out to the widow's walk/balcony ahead of me.  As I crossed the attic by myself, I almost screamed from the sensations - I saw a ghostly figure, heard murmuring, felt cold and had goosepimples!  When I joined the others, they all said, "What's wrong with you?!"  When I told them, the homeowner told us that they have a spirit who has been seen by the residents and various visitors.  I'll never forget that night.

Re: Ever had a scary encounter?

My friend took a photo of my husband and me and there is a ghostly glow coming from the camera hanging around my neck.  She said, "There's a ghost in the photo!"  When she took more photos with the same distance and angle, there were no ghostly effects.  My husband and I had just been to a party at a house where the previous owner had hung herself.  She was a sweet person and I think she enjoyed the party, then tagged along with us for the rest of the evening.  See the photo at

I have had many paranormal experiences throughout my life. I'm a sensitive and I feel the presence of spirits. I am a paranormal investigator. I used to watch Ghost Hunters until I learned that they fake a lot of the stuff they show on tv.
