    What Costume Have You Made?

There have been years where either I had no money to buy a costume or that I couldn't find something that I liked enough to buy. So for thos reasons I had to make my own costumes.

About 2 years ago, I had to make a cat costume. I borrowed a velvet black leotard from my cousin, bought a headband with ears on it and a tail.  Then I painted my nailes black and painted my nose black. I put my haird in curly pigtails that settled behing the ears on the headband. It was so cute!

    What costume did you make?

Wicked Witch. I ironically had striped socks. And I have a black gown that was longsleeves and I always had a cape. I bought red flats and just put on green paint.

I went as THE WEB - as in, a spider and a spiderweb.

I wore black pants, black turtleneck shirt, and on top of that white fishnet with holes cut in it so as to drape over head and arms - then I had a lot of rubber bugs - flies - grasshoppers - dragonflies etc. tangled up in the fishnet.   On my head I wore a big hat that was a giant spider to complete the effect.   That costume was a big hit, and when we had a contest I came in second!

A variation on that costume that I created for another party I called THE CATCH OF THE DAY.

In that costume I dressed in browns and olive green colors - draped a brown thicker fishnet over that, and I had tangled in that a set of fish lights - so I could actually plug in to an outlet and light up!  I wore on my head an insulated green hat and on my hands I had oven mitts that were just the right look and color to double as fish fins, and I wore a fish nose ( held on with an elastic band ).  That costume was a big hit as well - especially the lights - though I must admit that plugging into an outlet for the full effect somewhat limited my mobility at the party and later when we went out to the bars!

I don't sew, but I have a friend who does so together we have come up with a few costumes.  They have not been for Halloween though.  I have a group of friends who all enjoy having a themed party every now and then.  So we have had fairy parties, mermaid parties, pirate parties, princess parties, etc.  For each of those we made our own outfits.  Actually making the outfit is usually the most fun.  For the mermaid and fairy parties we incorporated the outfit making into the party experience.  We made it a weekend long get together and during the first day we all helped each other make our outfits.  Then the next day we had our party and got to wear our creations.

Re: What Costume Have You Made?

A few years ago I made an Anakin Skywalker costume  (similar to this one:  http://www.buycostumes.com/Star-Wars-Anakin-Skywalker-Adult-Costume/10606/ProductDetail.aspx ) and sleeveless cloak (like this, but no sleeves...see Anakin in Episode II: http://www.buycostumes.com/Star-Wars-Deluxe-Adult-Jedi-Robe-Costume/18808/ProductDetail.aspx).  I made the tunic, belt, and cloak.  I then bought brown pants and a tan undershirt.  I also had one of the fancy Master Replica lightsabers that I bought cheap on ebay because a batch had come out of the factory damaged; though, mine works pretty well.

It was fun, but when I moved from CT to FL I left all of my friends behind so I have not had any more parties that involve getting dressed up.  That is why I want to have a big Halloween party this year.

LOL, thank you!  I hope it will be a hit.  I am going to strongly encourage that EVERYONE dress up, but you know that there are always those who just don't want to.  Bah Hum Bug, ohhh wrong holiday.....  but you know what I mean!  I really need to start planning for it ASAP.  I'm glad I found this forum, because I have gotten some really good ideas, thanks!!!!
