What is your opinion of sexy women's costumes?

I personally am afraid to try one, fearing they might not fit or be too tight.  I just don't get why these are so common. And they seem to be now be marketed to young girls as well. Even though I'm not a parent, I always expect to see this in the news every year--parents anger over young girl's costumes being so revealing.   And now I want to say how I feel about all this.

    See this article:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/29/AR2007102902095.html

And what do you think of this?

"When it comes to Halloween costumes, boys can still be ninjas, doctors and mad scientists. A box of popcorn, even. Men can still be bananas or beer cans. ..."

Until this article I always assumed costumes representing beverages, food or inatimate objects were for both genders.  I still think they should be.   A girl I used to work with showed up as banana one year.  I mean, is someone at a store gonna tell me I can't buy a beer can, hot dog or lotto ticket costume just because I'm a woman?

Notice there are two different kinds of kissing booth costumes, one being modeled by  a man and one by a woman.

    http://www.buycostumes.com/browse/_/N-/Ntt-kissing+booth/results1.aspx

At least they believe that the tourist is a unisex costume as you see it being modeled by both a man and a woman

I totally agree that a lot of costumes for children and teens are way inappropriate. And it is getting harder an harder to find costumes that are not. The super short, sexy costumes are ok for some people but what about all the others that want a nice, cute costume without showing their rears and without buying petticoats and pantaloons trying to make the costume acceptable fot them to wear? Sometimes it is just a matter of a few inches. How hard is it to add a few more inches when making the costumes?

I can imagine that these costumes are what are selling with all the widespread choices out there. It is disturbing. Where I live we have a big part of our parties outside in cold weather so we have always picked choices that you were able to wear sweatpants and sweatshirts under for warmth without having to wear a coat and cover it up.... so it has never been an issue of choosing the skimpy costumes. However, it is getting harder and harder to choose a costume they like the older they get. It would be nice to see more choices that have more coverage and are cute.

Well for the most part I agree if young girls are buying these! On the other hand. I own quite a few and am looking always for more. I would not wear these out in public but a MILLION words can not describe the reaction Privately they INVOKE! PRICELESS and sooooooo much FUN HEHEHE

I hear that Rhonda! hahahaha  But you are a grown woman and what you do in your privacy is A+!! :) hehehe

I even think that adults can get away with wearing the shorter, sexier things in public.... especially with the pantaloons.  But I do not think anyone needs to show too much of their 'stuff' LOL

I am talking about my 11 and 13 year old. I would feel the same way if they were 15 or 16 however. I don't feel any child should walk around showing half their skin. The clothing that is the styles now days does just that. Not just costumes. Booty shorts have made a come back. It is tough to buy for kids so that they have the styles that are popular with all their friends and still have some modesty to them. Spaghetti strap tops are fine to me but not the sexy bra's that they want to wear under it to peep out as a tease to 13 year old (or worse) boys. And I don't think any 13 year old needs to wear thong underwear for example. I don't think I am a prude.... but maybe I am?

Yes COZ! I do agree! But the iotas falls on the Parent NO young teen can afford these costumes and

it is up to the Parent to emphasize the imagine they would be portraying and dangers they could invoke !

So the Parent should so no when you are older you can buy your own!

I am always open and honest to my kids. I want them to be sheltered but aware of what goes on in the real world.... ya know. I don't beat around the bush when talking to any of them about anything. You also cant assume that kids know things.... I have found out too many times my kids were thinking much different than I thought before talking to them.

About this line from that article:

"When it comes to Halloween costumes, boys can still be ninjas, doctors and mad scientists. A box of popcorn, even. Men can still be bananas or beer cans. ..."

Again, what happened to gender-neutral or unisex?   As I asked earlier, is someone at a Halloween/party store going to tell me I can't buy a banana, hot dog or beer can costume because I'm a woman?
Have costume makers forgotten that women wear pants, too?  They make women's pirate and referee costumes, for instance, with skirts.  And we all know that women can be doctors and men can be nurses in real life, but costume makers only make doctor costumes for men and nurse costumes for women.   And the nurse ones look old-fashioned, not like the scrub outfits worn today by all medical professionals.   Though this one (found on another costume site) looks more like an actual uniform:
http://www.zoogstercostumes.com/products/ru888378.html   notice that's in pink--probably  to discourage men from wanting to buy it?   There's also this vet costume aimed at girls:
Again, it's pink, probably to discourage boys from wanting it?   A girl or woman could easily buy and wear one of he doctor costumes aimed at men or boys (these tend to come in colors such as dark blue, green or grey), but all likelihood, most boys won't want to wear a nurse costume in pink

Yes, they can, but there will be some who don't like to wear such skimpy stuff.   And if you live where there is cold climate come late fall--well, wouldn't you be freezing in one of those things?   As a resident of California, I have seen late-fall weather vary year by year.  It can still be warm well into October, but can suddenly get cold, too.

Re: What is your opinion of sexy women's costumes?

I think certain types of costumes are geared toward males because that is who is mostly wearing them... but would still be appropriate for a female. Males dress in female costumes all the time.... it's all good fun.

I happen to be one of those people who wouldn't wear a skimpy costume. I live in Ohio which can be quite cold and rainy in October so we try to dress in costumes that have more coverage.... however, even if I lived somewhere warm I still would not wear the skimpy costumes and I wish there were more choices out there for myself and my daughters that didn't show off so much.

Re: What is your opinion of sexy women's costumes?

I buy skimpy costumes but I won't wear them without pantaloons and/or a petticoat. But I know I would be one of few! When you think about it those costumes would most of the time only be suitable for 20-to-30-year-olds. When you're a teenager you're too young and it's too dangerous, and when you're older you usually want more coverage. It's not that hard to make the same costumes just a little more decent!

I hear where you are coming from stereo typical !? I am a Reg Nurse and we do not all wear scrubs! We have screamed for colour and design and can now wear nice printed tops! You see this more on Ward or Floor Nurses, ER,or OR do not for obvious reasons. Most MDs wear Lab Coats easy on easy off.And Caps are all but gone, they are a nuisance and hard to keep sterile. In Nursing Homes you might see a OLD SCHOOL NURSE wear one!

Every year I get asked for Hospital scrubs they are typically green and very comfy !!

If you wear these then you are portraying a ER or OR NURSE they are UNISEX!
